Hello everyone! It's Nick here again with exciting news - we went to Texas today! You may be wondering how that would even possibly work but Khem (our NGO) took us to lunch at a restaurant called "Texas" (it was actually hot pot style cuisine, not quite like the tex-mex I was expecting).
Today was a very big day for us. We started the move from Bangkok to our community, Don Klang. We woke up nice and early in the morning to go to a local market and the dish of choice for most of our team seemed to be the sticky rice and mango with coconut milk. I can honestly say that I've never tasted a mango so fresh before in my life. After that we grouped up with the students from Mahidol and started our travel to Don Klang! On the way we stopped at HomePro (a Thai equivalent of something like Home Depot or Lowes) and purchased the first half of our project supplies for the trip. We then arrived in Don Klang and had the surreal experience of seeing something that we had been dreaming of for so long be right in front of us. Perhaps even stranger was that the community had put up a banner welcoming us to Thailand using a picture from our previous blog post. I can't say that I've ever seen my teammates blush as much as they did after seeing that very sweet sign. After our Texas lunch, we started to scout out the site we are going to work at and made some adjustments to our initial project plans. Some small uncertainties were cleared up and we were introduced to a whole new series of complications that we've been adapting to. Thankfully, with a group as resourceful and knowledgeable as this, we have made quick work of these complications and have a solid plan set in place.
We met in the evening to figure out a plan for tomorrow and to debrief on our trip as a whole. While exhausted (and very sweaty) we all seem to be excited and eager to start work tomorrow and, while perhaps slightly nervous, are up for the challenges ahead of us. We can not wait to continue to be a part of this amazing project and I look forward to interacting more with the students from Mahidol and the Don Klang community members soon.
Thank you all for the sweet comments and support, we look forward to updating you with our progress in the weeks to come!
